Ozone
Industrial Ventilation has teamed up with O3 Solutions to design the newest, most reliable and efficient ozone integrated system on the market, using the latest Plasma Block™ Technology and Pulse Density Modulating Generators. Running above 20,000 hertz, these units will perform at the highest efficiencies in the industry for reliable and trouble free operation.
Ozone is 50 times more powerful and over 3000 times faster acting than chlorine bleach. For this reason, ozone is used at food and beverage processing plants throughout the world. Because ozone can be produced onsite and on demand, the effect is reduced chemical cost, storage and handling, and added plant safety.
Reactions
Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent, far stronger than O2. It is also unstable at high concentrations, decaying to ordinary diatomic oxygen (with a half-life of about half an hour in atmospheric conditions): 2O3 → 3 O2
Applications
The largest use of ozone is in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, synthetic lubricants. and many other commercially useful organic compounds, where it is used to sever carbon-carbon bonds. It is also used for bleaching substances and for killing microorganisms in air, water, other locations. Many municipal drinking water systems kill bacteria with ozone instead of the more common chlorine. Ozone has a very high oxidation potential. Ozone does not form organochlorine compounds, nor does it remain in the water or air after treatment.
Although low levels of ozone have been advertised to be of some disinfectant use in residential homes, the concentration of ozone in dry air required to have a rapid, substantial effect on airborne pathogens exceeds safe levels recommended by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Environmental Protection Agency. Humidity control can vastly improve both the killing power of the ozone and the rate at which it decays back to oxygen (more humidity allows more effectiveness). Therefore in Cold storage applications, with higher humidities, the use of ozone can be extra effective.
Industrially, ozone is used to:
- Disinfect laundry in hospitals, food factories, care homes etc.;
- Disinfect water in place of chlorine
- Deodorize air and objects, such as after a fire.
- Kill bacteria on food or on contact surfaces;
- Sanitize swimming pools and spas
- Kill insects in stored grain
- Scrub yeast and mold spores from the air in food processing plants;
- Wash fresh fruits and vegetables to kill yeast, mold and bacteria;
- Eradicate water borne parasites such as Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium in surface water treatment plants.
In the cold storage and agriculture applications, ozone is very effective as:
- Product “Insurance” – maintains superior product quality while decreasing shrink and increasing cold storage hold times
- Air-borne and surface-borne microbial control
- Ozone efficiently and economically generated, applied and controlled automatically on-site
- Continuously treats and sanitizes cold air at point of introduction
- Rapid return on investment
- USDA & FDA approved. National Organic Program (NOP) allowed.
Additionally, gaseous ozone oxidizes and destroys ethylene gas that is released when fruits and vegetables begin to ripen by the following reaction: H2C=CH2 + O3 → CO2 + H2O
Thus, the use of gaseous ozone can reduce ripening while in storage. Ozonizing the air in a cold storage room can reduce the level of ethylene in the air. Ozone generators may be of most use in places where ethylene-producing and ethylene-sensitive fruits and vegetables may be stored in the same room.

Others will copy but all ozone units are not create equal.
Features
No System Warm Up Required Unlike older systems which may be running continuously to an ozone destruct unit and do not like to be cycled on/off, the IVI design can startup and shut down instantly. With the oxygen system in standby mode, the generators are always ready to perform at peak efficiencies. All high voltage is safely contained completely within the plasma block. This eliminates shock hazards and dirt build up which can cause dangerous flash over.
Oxygen Concentrators
Ozone can be produced with dry air but at levels much lower then possible with concentrated oxygen. Dry air is roughly 20% oxygen by volume where as an oxygen concentrator can produce levels consistently above 90% by volume. Another major advantage for using oxygen concentrators is that virtually all gas passing thru generators will be humidity free (very dry). Humidity when processed thru any ozone generator will greatly reduce the lifespan of the equipment as welll as resulting in the production of nitric acid which will damage product and storage equipment.
Instant Ozone When Needed Due to the micro gap design, high concentration ozone is always ready to operate at peak performance. Should the system require 100% ozone, current architecture will start the generator on demand and shut down as the system dictates.
Variable Ozone Output Option Should there be a requirement for varying the ozone output, our design can allow for a linear turn down to 1%. This is very unique in the industry and allows the operator to keep a very precise control on the systems organic loading requirements.
